Hill: Lack of new ‘Add the Words’ compromise bill biggest disappointment of session

Senate President Pro-Tem Brent Hill, R-Rexburg, said his biggest disappointment with this year’s legislative session is, “We’re this late in the session and we really haven’t brought forth legislation to prevent discrimination against the LGBT community as well as (protect) free exercise of religion. I want you to know it’s not from lack of effort. We’ve got good, sincere people working on that.”

He said, “The words mean a lot. We want to consider adding the words, but we want to make sure we’re adding the right words. That can be a matter of opinion at some times.” He said it’s likely too late in this year’s session to “get buy-in” on a new proposal. “I would be extremely surprised to see something actually get passed in this legislative session.”
