Idaho Senate approves interim group to study tax reduction

The Idaho Senate has backed a measure to establish an interim committee to explore ways to reduce Idaho's corporate and income taxes, the AP reports.

The Senate State Affairs Committee introduced the proposal Wednesday morning and passed it on Senate floor by the afternoon, bypassing a legislative hearing. The bill’s current status: Held at the desk in the House. It’s SCR 155. The resolution is co-sponsored by Senate President Pro-Tem Brent Hill, R-Rexburg, and House Speaker Scott Bedke, R-Oakley.

The interim committee would be tasked with reviewing Idaho's tax system and will report options on how to shave the corporate and personal income tax to the 2017 Idaho Legislature, writes AP reporter Kathryn Haake. Senate President Pro Tem Brent Hill says the Legislature should be studying tax policy because it affects every citizen in the state. An informal tax-study group met last year to also study Idaho's tax code, but the panel failed to agree on any recommendations on possible changes.
