Following the dollars in legislative races…

Idaho EdNews dug through more than 130 of the latest Idaho legislative campaign finance reports filed this week, and compiled a top-10 list based on total contributions during the latest filing period. While acknowledging that doesn’t count cash on hand, which for incumbents can be substantial, EdNews came up with an interesting list, topped by House Minority Leader John Rusche’s rematch with GOP challenger Mike Kingsley of Lewiston, who lost a similar challenge two years ago by just 48 votes.

EdNews reporter Kevin Richert reported that the Rusche-Kingsley matchup drew a total of $51,776 in fundraising during the current reporting period, $28,456 of that for Rusche and $23,320 for Kingsley.

Among other races on the list: At No. 6, the race between Rep. Heather Scott, R-Blanchard, and Democratic challenger Kate McAlister, drew $31,658 during the reporting period, $16,831 of that for McAlister and $14,827 for Scott. At No. 8, the race between Republican Paul Amador and Democrat Tom Hearn for the seat formerly held by Rep. Kathy Sims, R-Coeur d’Alene, was at $29,308, $16,303 of that for Amador and $13,005 for Hearn. And at No. 9, the race between former state Rep. Thyra Stevenson, R-Lewiston, and Democrat Bob Blakey drew $28,865, $14,830 of that for Stevenson and $14,035 for Blakey. Stevenson lost the seat two years ago to Democratic Rep. Dan Rudolph by just 26 votes; he’s not seeking re-election.
