CWI showcases its programs in Capitol rotunda, all day today
The College of Western Idaho has set up displays throughout the fourth-floor rotunda this morning, and is showcasing its programs all day. “We’re just trying to raise awareness in the Legislature, basically, about our programs,” said CWI Board Chairman Mark Dunham. “I don’t think a lot of people know what we do. Now we’re the largest higher ed institution in the state.”
CWI also has a subtle message along with the displays; CWI President Bert Glandon told JFAC at the college’s budget hearing that they are “desperate” for more state funding. Said Dunham, “I don’t think anyone anticipated that our growth would be so exponential.”
College spokesman Mark Browning said just 28 percent of CWI’s employees are state-funded, while the College of Southern Idaho and North Idaho College both are in the mid-40s for their percentage.
As part of the “CWI Day” events on the fourth floor today, Gov. Butch Otter spoke this morning to loud applause. “He’s been a huge supporter of CWI, since we formed,” said CWI President Bert Glandon.
