Idahoans rally for charities, nonprofits today on 5th annual ‘Idaho Gives’ day

Today is “Idaho Gives” day, a statewide fund drive for charities and nonprofits across the state that has a goal of raising $1.2 million in 24 hours – one dollar for every adult Idahoan. An array of special events is planned, from parties and food truck rallies to music and performances. Among them: In downtown Boise, 8th Street will be closed all day between Idaho and Bannock streets for performances, nonprofit demonstrations and more. It’s also First Thursday, so downtown will be hopping.

A food truck rally at the Bogus Basin offices on Bogus Basin Road will run from 5-8 p.m. In McCall, a Community Resources Fair from 3-7 p.m. at Alpine Village will include a bounce house, free ski waxing, bike safety checks, animal visits, beginner slackline and beer and food specials. In Sandpoint, there’ll be a celebration at Idaho Pour Authority, 203 Cedar St., from 4:30 to 8 p.m. with raffles and nonprofit representatives. A statewide list of special events is online here.

Events are being held in Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint, Boise, Nampa, Meridian, Weiser, Weiser, Twin Falls, Jerome, Idaho Falls and Chubbuck; you’ve probably already heard from some of your favorite nonprofits about their pitches today.

It’s the fifth year for the event, and organizers are hoping for the biggest outpouring yet. Last year’s event raised nearly $1.1 million; over the last four years, a total of $3.5 million was raised for Idaho nonprofits through the event. The event’s website includes leaderboards, prizes and plenty of hoopla. To donate to any of the nearly 700 participating Idaho nonprofits, go to idahogives.org.
