CDA Press: Jail Bond, Sales Tax DOA
On Tuesday, commissioners Todd Tondee and Rich Piazza outvoted fellow commissioner Rick Currie, paving the way for a ballot question that will ask voters to support using a sales tax increase in Kootenai County to fuel the project -- estimated to cost $145 million for expansion of the county's jail and administrative facilities. We are far from alone in being stunned by the price tag, no matter how much incarceration muscle it can buy. And with the economy struggling so much without having hit rock bottom yet, we wonder what Joe T. Taxpayer is willing and able to support/Coeur d'Alene Press. More here.
