But if today’s numbers are correct, Hoffman’s earlier assertion that the campaign has been successfully paying down its debt was in error. Today’s report shows the Sali campaign with $139,245 in contributions during the reporting period, $250,248 cash on hand and $135,673.74 in debt. That debt figure is the exact figure the campaign reported as its debt in its pre-primary election report on May 15. Hoffman just got back to me to say, “Here’s the bottom line: We’ve been working on this for more than a month with the FEC, and unfortunately the problems still haven’t been fully corrected.” The number for the campaign’s debt should’ve been roughly $9,000 less, Hoffman said/Betsy Russell, Eye On Boise.
