Thoreson: 40 Years Since 1st Job

When I read the obituary over the weekend for 81-year-old Darrel "Robby" Robinson the memories came flooding back. In 1968 my first real job was behind the counter at Robby's Drive-In, on Sherman Avenue between 6th and 7th. It was a cool place to work since you could still see all of your friends on a Saturday night. Darrel was a good first boss, insisting on hard work but allowing for fun. I remember being thrilled to earn $1.15 an hour making milk shakes and hamburgers and fries ... and mixing the giant containers of the special fry sauce. Darrel was deaf but let me tell you, that man could read lips and I think minds, too. No one got away with much under his watch/Kerri Thoreson, CDA Press. More here.

Question: Did you have a positive or negative response to your first boss?
