Wild Card/Tuesday — 3/3/09

In the news this morning: The Coast Guard is losing hope of finding 2 NFL players at sea here. Older people face greater HIV infection risks here. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says U.S. may need to expand bank rescue here. Married gays in Massachusetts are suing for federal benefits here. ‘The Bachelor’ Jason Mesnick tosses off his first pick Melissa for a second chance with No. 2 Molly here. And another Wild Card hits the table …

Visited Rush Limbaugh’s web site this morning and sent him a blistering e-mail. At the end of it, I called him a hypocrite. Currently paying attention to CNBC.

..and so.. I’m reduced to court jester!

Now, for this morning’s modified CNN Headlines:

“60 people get jobs today from stimulus $$” - Millions more still looking for parking space

“Michael Jackson to make announcement” - Alien Mother ship on standby to receive.

“Obama: A course correction needed?” - still sorting through candy wrappers in previous ship captain’s log to find original heading.

Breaking news on CNN, a building collapses in Cologne, Germany. It wasn’t reported on CNBC as they were covering various testimonies by Treasury and Bernanke on the budget and etc. In fact, thought I’d bring this up before I quit for the day, one of the CNBC news team commenting that as Bernanke was speaking, the Dow had dropped or was that in anticipation of Sec. Geithner’s own testimony. Quite a deliberate partisan slap for a news media in the tank for Obama. Oh, and by the way, after Geithner’s testimony, the DOW is heading north in the double digits.

Dow raises Dow drops, I think the investors can’t make up their minds.

So, while I lay on my couch at home for lunch I figured I’d post about my self-imposed exile I recently completed.

I keep getting questions from people about how it went and my health goals and all that. The point, after all, was to focus on health and I had some specific goals in mind.

The journey isn’t even done, but the point of the exile was to try to break the addiction and really focus on nutrition and getting into the gym. The only time I used the Internet at home was to keep a fitness journal and read more on nutrition and various weight lifting things so I could expand my workouts. It turned out in the end I started focusing on basic, heavy compound lifting.

So the goal has always been and remains to be through June to reduce my body fat. Not sure how much people care but just the basics … since Jan. 5, when I began the pretty detailed stuff I’ve been doing, I have reduced my body fat percentage by 6%, lost about 8-10 pounds of fat and gained five pounds of muscle. No need to get into measurements or anything. I’m sitting at about 170 pounds and, because I’m in a cutting phase, I’ll likely not gain as much muscle as fast as I did in the first two months of this because it’s very, very difficult to do while you’re in a caloric deficit.

Anyway, my most favorite accomplishment to date was deadlifting 300 pounds for my 1 Rep Max. Not bad for a kid who, in high school, once had an eating disorder and weighed in for a wrestling meet at 106 pounds with all my clothes on.

So that’s my progress so far and I appreciate the people who have asked. I’ve never eaten so many chicken breasts in my life but it’s been worth it.

New Wall Street Journal poll out today. The trust verdict is in.

Bent, what do you think of the effectiveness of that crackdown? 2000 federal troops into just one albeit very bad city. A nice show of force, but they’re deep into Geronimo territory who kept many such bluecoats at bay for a very long time. I really fear for that country and I think its ironic that you had to go to England to get that story. Who knew the drug war would start looking like a war?

Sis, I think the Mexican government is headed for collapse and a resulting civil war. Hmoff may even be live blogging this from his front yard in Arizona in a couple of months

All I know is for the first time ever, our chuch cancelled the youth group’s annual mission’s trip to Mexico.
    It must be bad.

Bent. >> “Hmoff may even be live blogging this from his front yard in Arizona in a couple of months”

In a couple of months, I’ll be back in Cda. Sheriff Joe down here doesn’t take any guff from anybody. I think my front yard will be secure. :~)

Agreed Bent, althought the civil war may be happening now. It emphasizes to me that somehting must be done pdq about the revenue stream we keep providing to the druglords. Maybe the government should get in the drug business. Maybe they could even balance the budget.

  • hmoffsuite on March 03 at 6:16 p.m.

Sis. >>> ” Maybe the government should get in the drug business. Maybe they could even balance the budget”

I think some variation should be looked at. This is ridiculous the money spent on the drug war. And, although pot is widely distributed openly in California and other places, a better revenue stream to the governments could be found. Out of budget desparation, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some governments take a look at it. Not meth or heroin tho, imo.

I’ve been reading about the current situation in Mexico with interest, given that I’m going to spend 10 days in Mexico in a little over a week from now. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds…

  • idawa on March 03 at 6:43 p.m.

“some governments” can’t look into legalizing drugs, not really anyway given the supreme court reasoning in Raisch. Amazing how the court could be so gun ho (pardon the pun) in state’s right in Lopez but find the same argument for drug laws un-compelling. The only government that can end this drug war is the feds, call your congressman.

  • cantyoureadthesigns on March 03 at 6:53 p.m.

Maybe the government should get in the drug business.
    -Sis

    As IF they’re NOT?

    LMAO!
