Mary Defends Time As Columnist

On her "Truth Page," mayoral candidate Mary Souza explains why she's no longer a columnist for the Coeur d'Alene Press. Seems Mary was first granted the Press column, according to Mary, when she complained re: the newspaper's depiction of her in a story about a possible conflict of interest. She reportedly met with the Coeur d'Alene Press editor and the publisher and was granted a weekly column that was first published on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006. She lost the column during the fall 2007 elections "when all the incumbents were re-elected. The Hagadone group, who owns the newspaper and the CdA Resort, was rumored to be applying for city permits at that time, to expand their operations, so they had to make nice with the city. (elections have consequences)." Mary goes on to say the column was brought back a year later. Sez Mary: The Press "gave me the prime placement at the top of the Sunday Opinion page, and paid me more than they’ve ever paid a columnist, according to the editor." She dismisses the claim that she lost the column due to inaccuracies. Full "Truth Page" report here.

  • DFO: Now we need a "Truth Report" on Christie Wood's claim that Mary secretly taped her during a three-hour coffee talk. And we need to know why she's keeping the identity of the Ocean of Life Foundation donor of $1000 secret.

Question: Did you read Mary's column back when?
