I Spotted A Little Kid …

On my regular lunch hour walks today, I spotted a little kid, mebbe 3-4, sitting alongside a little bike, on the edge of the City Hall parking lot, south of the library. He was all by himself. I asked a woman sitting on a bench 50 feet away, if he belonged to her. He didn't. No other adults were around. I couldn't leave him there by himself. Nor did I feel that a 911 call was necessary. So I hot-footed it to the lower level of City Hall, where I found one of Steve Anthony's recreation guys, to help me deal with the situation. We returned to the little guy & asked him if his mother was around. He mumbled something through a cookie. Then, he said something about his Dad & pointed to the children's playground some distance away. About that time, I saw a man with a toddler in arms walking across the outdoor basketball courts. It turned out to be his father. The man told me: "I was keeping an eye on him." Hmm. I truly hope he was.

Question: Should I have called 911 right away?
