Shoshone County will have no legislative representative living within its boundaries in the 2017 Legislature. Challenger Priscilla Giddings of north-central Idaho easily defeated three-term Rep. Shannon McMillan, R-Silverton in their House District 7A contest. In the Senate District 7 race, Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll fell to Carl Crabtree.
It’ll be Brody vs. McKenzie in November in the race for the Idaho Supreme Court. With 98 percent of the precincts reporting, Rupert attorney Robyn Brody had 30 percent; state Sen. Curt McKenzie, 28 percent; and Clive Strong and Sergio Gutierrez both had 21%. That sets up a runoff in November between Brody and McKenzie.
The Bonner County Daily Bee reports there will be two new faces in the Bonner County commissioners office. Also, that incumbent Sheriff Darryl Wheeler fended off a strong challenge by Terry Ford in their GOP primary contest.
Incumbent Sheriff Ben Wolfinger crushed constitutional sheriff candidate John Green in their GOP primary contest. Now, he'll face another constitutional sheriff candidate in the general election, Democrat Tina Kunishige.
The final Kootenai County results from last night's election were posted in the Coeur d'Alene Press this AM. I join Editor Mike Patrick in congratulating County Clerk Jim Brannon's elections crew for getting the count done quickly. There was a little room for gloom last night, as Mike points out: Only 22.61% of registered voters cast ballots.
Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo and 1st District Congressman Raul Labrador cruised easily through the state’s primary election on Tuesday – Crapo didn’t even have an opponent – but North Idaho legislative races were much more hotly contested. Crapo in November will face Democrat Jerry Sturgill, a Boise businessman who also was unopposed Tuesday.
State Sen Shawn Keough, the subject of withering attacks from the Far Right, appears to be headed to a strong victory over Tea Party candidate Glenn Rohrer in the SD 1 GOP primary race. With all of Boundary County counted and 20 of 33 precincts in Bonner County tabulated, Keough has 2,958 votes (58.5%) to Rohrer's 2,093 (41.5%).
