Voters boot radical commissioner

Idaho County Commission Chairman Jim Chmelik lost his board seat during Tuesday's primary, while first-term Commissioner Mark Frei held on to his position for a second term. Former Cottonwood Mayor Denis Duman bested Chmelik by 2,014 votes, or 63.5 percent, to 1,157 votes for the Republican nomination for the District 3 commission seat.Duman will face Democrat Jim Rehder, who won 70 write-in votes. His name will appear on the general election ballot in November/Kathy Hedberg, Lewiston Tribune. More here.

Factoid: Commissioner Jim Chmelik was the registered agent for the Western Landmark Foundation, an organization dedicated to legally challenging the federal government's ownership of public lands.
