Costello: Mocking Christians OK, but ... 34 

In his Saturday column for the Lewiston Tribune, Michael Costello comments that liberals have no problem mocking Christians. But they're hypersensitive when it comes to mocking Muslims. Costello says: "It seems that a credible threat of violence marks the surest path to gaining international respect for one's religious convictions."

Study reveals downtown parking deficiencies

A new downtown parking study has been completed revealing many deficiencies that will need to be addressed to make the system more efficient. Annaka Norris, project manager for Rich and Associates, presented her findings to the city council Tuesday evening after updating the city’s 2007-08 parking study.

Citylink's future under discussion 

Residents in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and surrounding communities are being asked to participate in a study of the future of Citylink, the small bus line serving the area. The first of four open house meetings will run from noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the Post Falls Library, 821 N. Spokane St.

Press: In praise of urban renewal 

In an editorial, Editor Mike Patrick/Coeur d'Alene Press comments: "Now there’s a beautiful word: de-annexation. What that means in local parlance is the removal of 62 parcels from Coeur d’Alene’s urban renewal districts. And what that means is several taxing districts — the city being the largest — will recoup about $1.3 million in tax dollars."

Hucks: Closed GOPrimary attracts D's 

In Sunday Huckleberries, I trotted out my theory that scorched-earth Republicans outsmarted themselves when they sued successfully in 2011 to close their primary. Huckleberries has anecdotal evidence that more Democrats are voting in the Republican primary today than ever. And that number is going to grow.
