Huckleberries Online

On trollish behavior

I enjoy lively interaction among the commenters at Huckleberries Online. Sometimes, I allow commenters to step right up to my line between what's acceptable commentary and what isn't. Sometimes, they step over. Sometimes, I allow comments from long-time bloggers that I wouldn't from newbies. Or from commenters who have spent time in the cooler. There's nothing scientific about my decisions. Usually, I delete comments as a subtle warning that the commenter is wandering out of bounds. Why am I telling you this? I quietly handle trolls and trollish activity. I was kept busy in the closing days of the bruising presidential campaign and into the post-election days. Nerves are still raw, especially among those who opposed the election of Donald Trump. But that doesn't mean that commenters can act out by calling Trump a Nazi or some other pet name. Or gloat too much. Frankly, I'm pretty tired of all the negativity with which we had to deal in the last 18 months. I'm curious to see what a Trump presidency will look like. I hope he does well. And won't be surprised if he stubs his toe time and again in his first 100 days. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. If you can't, you're welcome to comment. Of course. But keep those comments within bounds.
