Sandpoint street now 2-way

Apparently, Sandpoint has ditched its one-way system through town for a two-way system, and some residents are upset. Sandpoint Online reports that the move to a one-way street back in 1979 was controversial, too:

The confusion some have felt over revision of Sandpoint's downtown streets to two-way traffic is deja vu all over again ... to 1979. A lot of folks have been wracking their memories for when, exactly, the streets were first changed to the one-way grid now being eliminated. Our friend, former City Clerk Helen Newton, did the sleuthing to pin down the answer: July 1979, under former Mayor Gene Holt. Yep, it was pretty controversial then, too (and Mayor Holt lost his seat that November to Sally Cupan). Question: Did you enjoy the one-way traffic grid through Sandpoint?
