Riverfront Park’s ice ribbon debut draws scores of skaters

As hundreds of patrons glided under the soft glow of multicolored lights, twinkling across the ice at the base of a 60-foot Christmas tree, Riley Witt couldn’t resist a comparison. “It’s beginning to be the Rockefeller corner of Spokane,” said Witt, the architect of the wandering, 645-foot ice skating ribbon, which opened at Riverfront Park on Friday night.

Spokane Police officer’s use of force justified in September shooting

Spokane police Officer Tucker Seitz was justified in shooting Antonio Davis in September, according to the Spokane County prosecutor’s office. Davis, 25, was shot in the arm after police say he charged toward Seitz with his hand in his waistband area. Davis was treated at a local hospital before being booked into jail on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and attempting to elude police.

Series of thefts leaves Kingston fly shop owners reeling

When Dustin Stetson opened The River Fly Shop on the North Fork Coeur d’Alene River in 2015, the 34-year-old guide realized a childhood dream. A mile north of the Kingston exit off Interstate 90, Stetson, along with his girlfriend and business partner Katie Hoyt, got busy selling flies, rods and miscellaneous gear to local anglers.

Missing man found dead in North Idaho

A missing 73-year-old man was found dead Tuesday night off Highway 3 near the Kootenai and Benewah County border, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office. Robert R. Westbrook, who was reported missing Thursday afternoon, apparently drove off the roadway and crashed his vehicle 50 feet down an embankment.
