Bicyclist Injured In Bus Crash

A 29-year-old Spokane woman who was riding her bike Sunday evening suffered head injuries when she collided with a Spokane Transit Authority bus on the South Hill.

Tamara Thurlow was listed in satisfactory condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center Sunday night.

Traffic was blocked for more than two hours on Grand Avenue between 16th and 18th streets as police investigated the accident, which happened at 7:42 p.m.

At the time, Thurlow was riding her bike in the right curb lane southbound on Grand Avenue. At 17th Avenue, she turned left and allegedly hit the door and front right corner of the bus, which was also driving south, police said.

Thurlow fell beneath the bus. She was not wearing a bike helmet, police said.

The bus, which was traveling about 18 miles per hour, immediately stopped, witnesses told police.

“This tire stopped maybe a foot before her,” said Sgt. Anthony Giannetto, pointing to the front right tire of the bus.
