St. John’s Star May Face Sanctions

Compiled From Wire Services

St. John’s freshman star Felipe Lopez could face an NCAA suspension for playing in two non-sanctioned basketball games last week in his native Dominican Republic.

The New York Post said St. John’s spokesman Frank Raccaniello confirmed the NCAA is investigating Lopez’s participation, but the school would not officially comment until the NCAA reveals its findings.

The newspaper, citing unidentified sources, said St. John’s officials first learned Lopez had played in the games last week when it was reported in New York’s Spanish-language newspaper El Diaro. Athletic director Jack Kaiser then notified the Big East, which turned the information over to the NCAA.
