Girl Fractures Skull In Fall From Stolen Car

From Staff And Wire Reports

FOR THE RECORD: Tuesday, April 18, 1995 CORRECTION: A 13-year-old Spokane Valley girl whose skull was fractured last week was riding on the trunk of a car driven by a friend. The girl, also 13, took her mother’s car from the 2200 block of North Marguerite. Information released by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department for a Saturday story was wrong.

A 13-year-old girl fractured her skull after allegedly taking her mother’s vehicle early Friday morning, deputies said.

The juvenile, who lives on the 1100 block of North Stout, drove the vehicle to another residence, where a group of boys and girls got in, said sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick.

She and another girl were sitting on the trunk of the car, as another teenager drove it toward Pasadena Park Elementary School on Upriver Drive.

One of the girls pounded on the window, Wiyrick said, trying to stop the car. The car, which was reportedly going about 20 mph, kept going.

The 13-year-old fell and struck her head on the pavement. She has a fractured skull and a concussion.

After being treated at Valley Hospital and Medical Center, she was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she remained in serious condition Friday night.
