Clay Steele Kennewick

Graveside service for Clay Edward Steele, 49, is planned for 1 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Mueller’s Funeral Park in Kennewick is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Steele, a former Spokane resident, died Aug. 14 of cancer.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for 29 years, and transferred to the Pasco division 16 years ago.

He is survived by two daughters, Kelli King and Sarah Steele, both of Spokane; one son, Scott Steele of Spokane; his companion, Pat Sommers of Kennewick; and three grandchildren.

Richard Barnes Spokane

Service for Richard Clayton Barnes, 85, will be at 2 p.m. today at the 11th Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barnes, who was born in Sandpoint, died Friday.

He had worked as a miner in Metaline Falls, Wash., and in the shipyards of Portland during World War II. He moved to Spokane in 1947 and worked as a millwright. He retired as shop steward at Dick’s Steel in 1978.

He was a member of the Iron Workers Union and the 11th Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen; three daughters, Dorothy Kelly of Provo, Utah, and Virginia Shouse and Patricia Gates, both of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; two sons, David Barnes of Otis Orchards, and Thomas Barnes of Spokane; one sister, Vesta Peters of Spokane; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Boys Ranch or The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

Irma Mayer Spokane

Memorial service for Irma A. Mayer, 91, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hawthorne Manor Retirement Residence. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Mayer, who died Tuesday, was born in Genesee, Idaho.

She had worked at a drug store and a state Liquor Store in the Coeur d’Alene area and moved to Spokane from Coeur d’Alene in 1960.

She was a member of the Toastmasters, the Lady Elks, and Manito Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Arthur Mayer, died in 1970.

Survivors include one sister, Zylda Elliott of Richland; one grandson and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Fred Heinemann Cheney

Graveside service for Fred Heinemann, 79, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeCheney is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Heinemann, who died Friday, was born in Cheney.

He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also served during the Korean War.

He retired from the administrative staff of Eastern Washington University in 1978.

Mr. Heinemann was a member of Cheney United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge No. 42, the Martha Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, the Retired State Employees Association and the Retired Army Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wanda; three sons, Robert Heinemann of Korea, Warren Heinemann of Livermore, Calif., and Dean Heinemann of Cheney; one sister, Minnie Ratcliffe of Cheney; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
