Teens Rob Youths In Mall Parking Lot

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two teenage boys on in-line skates were robbed by older teenagers Sunday evening in the parking lot of Franklin Park Mall, 5628 N. Division, police said.

The two victims, ages 13 and 15, had been shopping in PayLess Drug Store. One of the boys was coaxed over to a nearby van at 6:37 p.m., and the other boy followed, police said.

The teenagers in the van, estimated at 17 or 18 years old, told the younger boys they had a choice: give up their money, or get a beating.

The boys gave the older teenagers a small amount of cash and a can of ball bearing oil for in-line skates, police said.

About four hours later, police stopped a Dodge Caravan van matching the description of the vehicle from the mall parking lot. Police said they expected to arrest the two teenage boys in the van.
