County Commissioner Candidates Debate

From Staff And Wire Reports

Six candidates for the District 1 seat on the Spokane County Commission will meet early Friday for a forum sponsored by the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the chamber’s Spokane Room, 1020 W. Riverside Ave. Coffee and doughnuts cost $1.

Each candidate will be allotted five minutes to speak; a question-and-answer session will follow.

District 1 covers an area that includes the north part of of Spokane to the Pend Oreille County line. Only District 1 voters can vote in the commissioner race during the Sep. 19 primary. All county voters can cast ballots during the Nov. 7 general election.

The candidates are Republicans Martin Burnette, Mike Davis and Art Meikel; Democrats George Marlton and John Roskelley; and independent Chris Anderson.

Marlton currently holds the seat after his June appointment by the other two county commissioners to fill the vacancy created when Skip Chilberg resigned.
