Nelson Concert Still On

From Staff And Wire Reports

Despite apparent rumors of a cancellation, the Willie Nelson concert tonight at Playfair Race Course will happen.

Nelson, who played Sacramento on Tuesday night, considered postponing his Spokane concert because he might not be able to make it in time since he was traveling by bus.

But Nelson chartered a plane to fly his band, road crew and equipment into Spokane.

Playfair spokesman Hugh Mellon went on the air with two country radio stations, KDRK and KNFR, on Tuesday to reassure anyone who feared the concert was canceled.

“I don’t know how it gets around so quick,” Mellon said. “My maintenance guy said, ‘Should I still set up the stage?’

“I said: ‘Of course, do it! Who told you it was canceled?”’

The concert, the final one of Playfair’s summer concert series, kicks off at 6 p.m. with Austin’s Asleep at the Wheel.

Tickets are still available for $22.50. Children ages 10 and under will be admitted free.
