College Basketball Tonight

Portland at EWU

Portland (3-0) of the West Coast Conference visits Reese Court for a 7:05 p.m. non-conference game against Eastern Washington.

At a glance: It’s finals week in Cheney, and Portland figures to present the Eagles with another tough test. Through four games - losses to Washington State, Washington, San Franciscto and Hofstra - EWU has had few correct answers. And while one might give EWU an “A” for effort, playing with intensity is rarely enough to overcome 19.5 turnovers per game. … First-year Eagles coach Steve Aggers said he expects to hear from the NCAA today as to the eligibility of senior center Melvin Lewis, who has been sidelined while the NCAA investigates the validity of a math class he took during junior college. … Center Adam Dean (8.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg) is shooting a team-best 55 percent from the field, but has fouled out three times.

EWU: Curtis Porter, 12.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg; Mike Sims, 4.8 rpg; Brett Thompson, 2.25 apg. Portland: Kweemada King, 17.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg.

Radio: KSBN (1230 AM).

Gonzaga at Montana State

Gonzaga (2-1) travels to Bozeman to take on the 3-1

Bobcats of the Big Sky Conference in a 6:30 p.m. (Pacific) contest. GU is coming off a 77-60 victory over Southern Utah.

At a glance Discounting the 2-minute ride from campus to the Spokane Arena to play Washington State, this is the first road trip for the Bulldogs.

“This is the part of the season where a road trip will really be good for us,” GU coach Dan Fitzgerald said. “It’s a chance to see who we are as a team and how we respond.”

Fitzgerald calls Montana “a real good team, although they got beat pretty good by Eastern Michigan.”

GU forward Jon Kinloch played 36 minutes on a tender ankle last Saturday against Southern Utah. “He’s still not back to 100 percent, but he’s getting better every day,” Fitzgerald said.

GU’s interior players have been difficult to stop thus far as Scott Snider has netted 77.8 percent of his shots and Paul Rogers has connected on 65.6 percent.

Six-foot-7 forward Quadre Lollis, a 240-pounder, provides the Bobcat muscle and the bulk of scoring.

Gonzaga: Paul Rogers, 18.3 ppg; Scott Snider, 6.3 rpg; Kyle Dixon, 5.3 apg. Montana State: Quadre Lollis, 18.5 ppg; Lollis, 10.0 rpg; Scott Hatler, 4.8 apg.

Radio: KJRB (790 AM) with Dick Wright 15 minutes before tipoff.
