Raymond Lasz Spokane

Service for Raymond P. Lasz, 37, was Tuesday at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery.

Mr. Lasz died last Friday from a non-malignant brain tumor.

Born in Spokane, he was a farmer and a longtime Fairfield resident.

He was a member of Fairfield Triangle Grange No. 927.

He is survived by his parents, Lloyd and Virginia Lasz of Fairfield; his wife Linda Lasz; two daughters, Rachel and Cheryl Lasz; one son Jason; one brother, Leonard Lasz of Fairfield; and one sister, Lois Stranberg of Freeman.

Bunn Snow Spokane

Memorial service for E. B. “Bunn” Snow, 81, will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. His son, Mark Snow, will help officiate at the service.

Mr. Snow, who died Sunday, was born in Indian Valley, Idaho.

He graduated from high school in Council, Idaho, and from the University of Idaho with a business administration degree.

He had lived in Spokane for 52 years.

He worked for the Aluminum Corp. of America, Inter-Mountain Equipment, and Evans Engines before retiring in 1979.

Mr. Snow was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America for 26 years. He was a member of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce and received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the city of Spokane in 1984.

He was also a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the Spokane Chapter of the Vandal Boosters. He had served on the National Vandal Booster Board from 1981 to 1989 and received the Vandal Booster Outstanding Board Member Award for loyal and dedicated service to UI Athletics in 1990.

He was cited to the Distinguished Service Chapter by Delta Tau Delta’s international fraternity for his tireless leadership and devotion to his fraternity in 1990.

Two scholarships have been established at the University of Idaho in Bunn Snow’s name: a permanent scholarship by his fraternity and an athletic scholarship.

His wife, Arloene, died in 1988.

Mr. Snow is survived by three daughters, Carol Snow, Pat Stearns and Debbie Ogohara, all of Spokane; two sons, Mark and Gary Snow, both of Boise; two sisters, Netti Ratcliffe of Tigard, Ore., and Helen Ankarberg of Corvallis, Ore.; one brother, Melvin Snow of Lewiston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the E. B. Snow Athletic Scholarship Fund at the University of Idaho.

Ethel McCoy Sanders, Idaho

Memorial service for Ethel O. McCoy, 90, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McCoy, who was born in Chili, Wis., died last Friday.

She graduated from high school in Bigfork, Mont.

In 1927 she married Jasper Bierce in Spokane. He died in 1946.

She married Tim McCoy in 1947 in Coeur d’Alene and they settled near Sanders, Idaho. He died in 1951.

She was a member of the Tensed (Idaho) Senior Citizens Club and the Tensed Quilting Club.

Mrs. McCoy is survived by three sons, Pat Bierce of Chattaroy, and Michael Bierce and John McCoy, both of Tensed; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Donald Longmore Spokane

Graveside service for Donald G. Longmore, 63, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Longmore, a 30-year Spokane resident, died last Friday.

He was born in Bellingham.

He served in the Marine Corps, and worked for the Spokane County Public Defender’s Office for 10 years until 1981.

He is survived by his former wife, June Osborne of Salem, Ore.; two sons, Donald Longmore Jr. of Seattle and Jerry Longmore of Spokane; four daughters, Jeanette Hall of Napa, Calif., Lonna Stewart of Tacoma, Susan Herrera of Spokane and Carol Longmore of Othello, Wash.; one brother, Albert Longmore of Coulterville, Calif.; and one sister, Vivian Cooper of Citrus Heights, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Lora Day Spokane

Graveside service for Lora “Lory” Bennie Day, 85, will be today at 1 p.m. at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum in Spokane. English Funeral Chapel of Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Day, who was born in Missouri, died Tuesday.

He came to Spokane from Missouri in 1930 and worked for Armour and Co. as a cattle buyer. He later worked as a commissioned buyer at the Old Union Stockyards in Spokane, and went on to manage livestock auctions in Pasco and Sandpoint.

He married Florence Thomas in 1932.

Mr. Day enjoyed the livestock industry and loved horse racing. He liked to raise and race his own thoroughbred and quarter horses.

He was a member of the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Horsemen’s Benevolent Protection Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include a daughter, Bernadine Hodge of Spokane; one sister, Verna Brumfield of Missouri; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Child and Infant Protection Services.

Maurice “Tex” Apling Newport, Wash.

Private burial for Maurice E. “Tex” Apling, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport. Private burial will follow at the Newport Cemetery.

Mr. Apling, who died Monday at Newport Hospital, was born in Woodland, Wash., and had lived in Newport for 50 years.

He served in the Coast Guard, and in 1951 he married Florence Biggs in Priest River, Idaho.

He worked for the E.B. Hunter sawmill in Newport, delivered concrete for the Romero Bros., and retired after 20 years with the Carpenters Union.

Mr. Apling worked in construction and had worked on the Box Canyon, Boundary, Dworshak and Little Goose dams.

After his retirement he worked part time in the Forest Service carpentry shop. He retired again in 1994.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Dennis Apling of Newport; seven daughters, Texanne Merzoian of Toledo, Wash., and Bonnie Womack, Judy Malby, Sue Entriken, and Betsy, Cindy and Brandy Apling, all of Newport; one sister, Grace Williams of Portland; six half-brothers and halfsisters, Noris, Elsie, Harriet, Wayne and Fred Apling and Dorothy Fry; 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Kord Vance Spokane

Private cremation will be held for A. Kord Vance, 84. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Vance, who died Monday, was born in Long Beach, Calif.

He served in the Army during World War II.

In 1933 he went to work as a machinist with the Shell Chemical Co. in Dominguez, Calif. He retired as a foreman in 1965.

He had lived in Spokane for 20 years.

Mr. Vance is survived by his wife of 46 years, Doreen Vance.

Elizabeth Stevens Spokane

Service for Elizabeth Alice (Dislevy) Stevens, 91, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Stevens, who was born in Balfour, N.D., died Saturday in Issaquah, Wash.

A 65-year resident of Spokane, she was born in Balfour, N.D.

In 1928 she married Victor Zalomsky, and they both worked in coal mines in North Dakota and silver mines in Kellogg. In Spangle they served as interpreters for Russian employees. They settled on an 80-acre farm in Saltese Flats. Mr. Zalomsky husband died in 1954. She returned to North Dakota for a few years and moved back to the Spokane area in 1960.

She married Jesse Stevens in the 1960s. He died in 1972.

Mrs. Stevens worked in the Russian Pavilion during Expo ‘74.

She was a member of the Seventhday Adventist Church.

Survivors include three stepsons, Kiefferd Stevens of Seattle, Robert Stevens of Kent, Wash., and Fred Stevens of Spokane; three brothers, Jake Dislevy of San Jose, Calif., Arthur Dislevy of Butte, N.D., and Daniel Dislevy of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Lena Wagner of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Anna Evans of Clearwater, Fla.; nine stepgrandchildren, 16 stepgreat-grandchildren and one stepgreat-greatgrandson.

Hattie Dailey Garfield, Wash.

Visitation for Hattie M. Dailey, 85, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Memorial service is planned for 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Garfield Christian Church. Private burial will precede at Freeze Cemetery near Potlatch, Idaho.

Mrs. Dailey, a longtime Garfield resident, died Wednesday at Mason General Hospital in Shelton, Wash. She had lived in Shelton since 1992.

She was born in Pine City, Wash., and graduated from high school in St. John, Wash., and received a teaching certificate from Cheney Normal School. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in the Pine City and Malden, Wash., area for a few years.

She married Joe Dailey in 1935 in Colfax, Wash., and they settled in Garfield. He died in 1971.

Mrs. Dailey was the head cook for Garfield School District for 20 years before retiring in 1974.

She was a member of Garfield Christian Church and the Garfield Ladies Aid.

Survivors include one daughter, Connie Jo Nelson of Shelton; two sisters, Lola Blakely of Fairfield and LaVonne Thomas of Rosalia, Wash.; and one granddaughter.

Michael Mahar Odessa, Wash.

Memorial service for Michael Robert Mahar, 44, is set for 2 p.m. today at Heritage Congregational Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Maher, who was born in Spokane, died Sunday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School and Eastern Washington University.

He worked as a manager of the former Fossum Paint Stores in Spokane until 1987.

He is survived by one son, Shawn Mahar of Seattle; his mother, Joan Mahar of Spokane; one brother, Jim Mahar of Spokane; and two sisters, Margaret “Meg” Ray of Renton, Wash., and Marilee Wavra of Montana.

Fletcher ‘Luke’ Hamlin Spokane

Memorial service for Fletcher “Luke” Hamlin, 68, will be at 11 a.m. today at New Hope Baptist Church. Visitation will follow from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mr. Hamlin, who was born in Marianna, Ark., died Tuesday.

He had lived in Spokane for 35 years and was a body and fender worker for Barton Oldsmobile and Dishman Dodge.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and New Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Sylvia Hamlin; seven children in the Chicago area; his former wife, Lilly Bell Hamlin; and numerous stepchildren.

Teresa Coccia Spokane

Vigil service for Teresa E. Coccia, 66, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Mausoleum.

Mrs. Coccia, a 20-year Spokane resident, died Saturday.

She was born in Italy and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

She is is survived by her husband, Joseph Coccia of Spokane; three brothers, Pasquale, Benito and Pierino Villani, all of Italy; and one sister, Maria DeGiosa of Italy.

Jack Sackville-West Spokane

Memorial service for Arthur J. “Jack” Sackville-West Jr., will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Central United Methodist Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sackville-West, who died Saturday, was 76.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School, and from Washington State College with an architectural engineering degree.

He entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was discharged in 1946.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club and the American Institute of Architects and was a board member of Rockwood Retirement Community.

Mr. Sackville-West worked as an architect with George Rasque and later owned the company and changed the name to George Sackville-West, Architect.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Sackville-West; six sons, Dave, Bob, Bill and Jim Sackville-West, all of Spokane, and Jack “Skip” Sackville-West of Loon Lake, Wash., and Rich Sackville-West of Fircrest, Wash.; one daughter, Karyn Whitten of Stone Mountain, Ga.; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
