Arizona Reprimanded

Compiled From Wire Services

The Pacific-10 Conference reprimanded Arizona State after determining a basketball player received money from a friend of an assistant basketball coach five years ago.

Pac-10 commissioner Tom Hansen said the conference accepted Arizona State’s decision to “disassociate the representative from its athletics program.”

The conference did not identify the player, the assistant coach or the friend.

The Pac-10 has placed UCLA on probation for one year and penalized the softball program five scholarships over a two-year period because of violations occurring in its softball program.

UCLA self-reported that it exceeded NCAA softball financial aid limitations.

The Pac reprimanded the Oregon State women’s basketball program for 14 NCAA rules violations, but did not impose any penalties against the school. It will forward its findings to the NCAA.

Most of the infractions involved improper benefits to athletes, to which there were significant corrective actions taken by Oregon State.
