Phillips Not Sure About Future, But Looks To Start In Fiesta

Compiled From Wire Services

Nebraska tailback Lawrence Phillips, whose return to the team after beating a former girlfriend sparked national criticism of the football program, would love to end his rollercoaster season by starting in the Fiesta Bowl.

The game also may be his last at Nebraska.

Phillips, a 20-year-old junior, said he probably will return for his senior season if an NFL committee projects him as anything but a first-round pick in next year’s draft. That means the Jan. 2 game against No. 2 Florida could be Phillips’ college finale.

“Do I want to leave? No, I wouldn’t say that,” Phillips said. “I’ve got to look at all the options. There’s no reason for me to leave if I’m not going to go in the first round.”
