16% Of Idaho Children Live In Poverty

Boise State University and the Idaho Office for Children have issued a book with information on the educational, social, economic and physical well-being of the state’s children.

The information includes:

Children in poverty: 1990 census data show 49,159 Idaho children, or 16.2 percent, lived in poverty. The lowest percentage was Caribou County’s 6.8 percent, while the highest was Owyhee County’s 34.5 percent.

Children in single-parent families: 1990 census data show 42,840 Idaho children, or 14.7 percent, lived in single-parent families. The lowest percentage was Oneida County’s 2.8 percent, while the highest was Shoshone County’s 21.3 percent.
