Students Plan Rally

Rutgers students were preparing to rally at a meeting of the university’s Board of Governors today where controversial remarks President Francis Lawrence made in November would be discussed.

More than 200 students were expected to board buses at the New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses and join students from the Newark campus in demanding that Lawrence submit his resignation to the board at its meeting here, a protest organizer said.

Lawrence has been criticized for a remark to faculty members last fall that “disadvantaged” students don’t have “that genetic hereditary background to have a higher average” in standardized tests.
