Idaho At Gonzaga

Gonzaga (9-1) plays host to Idaho (4-5) at the Martin Centre at 7 p.m., with the nation’s third-longest homecourt winning streak (33 games) on the line.

At a glance

The key to this one looks pretty simple: Can Idaho shoot? The Vandals scored an impressive 87-77 win over Washington State in mid-December shooting 56 percent. The rest of the season, though, the Vandals have hovered in the low-40s for shooting percentage (43 percent field-goal and 27 percent from 3-point range). “I could go on for an hour about our atrocious shooting,” coach Joe Cravens said. “Defensively and rebounding, some of the things I put a real high priority on, have been pretty good, but you look at our losses and a lot of it has come down to our inability to put it in the hole.”

Other than rugged forward Harry Harrison, who has put together six straight double-doubles, Cravens hasn’t been able to find much consistency. The 20-point performance by junior guard Shawn Dirden against Portland last week, though, had to encourage Cravens. The Vandals are 0-3 in games on opponents’ courts, and never, at any point, led one of those games. In the first meeting between these teams, a 64-58 GU win in early December, Idaho was ahead by nine points when Gonzaga shifted to a zone defense and took control. Gonzaga center Scott Snider may return to limited action after a knee injury against Eastern Washington.

Gonzaga: John Rillie, 15.0 points per game; Jason Rubright, 6.4 rebounds; Kyle Dixon, 4.0 assists. Idaho: Harry Harrison, 13.3 ppg, 9.9 rpg; Mark Leslie, 3.5 apg.
