Police Search For Robber Fails

From Staff Reports

Spokane police came away empty-handed after tracking a suspected bank robber to a downtown apartment building Friday night.

Officers with a K-9 tracking dog responded to a robbery at the U.S. Bank branch at Third and Stevens and ended up two blocks away, thinking they had their man.

The suspect went into the bank just before 6 p.m., demanded cash, then ran down the street, police reported.

Investigating officers then used the tracking dog, which led them to the Briggs Apartment Building at Third and Wall. Officers entered the building and spent more than 90 minutes before giving up their search.

The suspect is a white male of medium build, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a mustache, police said. He was wearing a maroon stocking cap and dark blue jacket.
