Intel, Amd Declare Truce, Settle Outstanding Lawsuits

Associated Press

Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Wednesday ended their long and costly legal battle over the world’s best-selling computer chips.

The companies, once allies and then bitter enemies, settled all their lawsuits stemming over AMD’s right to copy Intel’s chips. Intel granted AMD the right to copy chips it already has and AMD agreed it has no rights to copy additional chips.

The companies also will pay each other damages in two of the cases and negotiate a licensing arrangement that will take effect next January.

The disputes centered on whether AMD had the legal right to built-in software in Intel chips.
