Foreman To The Defense

Compiled From Wire Services

George Foreman’s first defense of his heavyweight titles could come in the same ring where he won them by stopping Michael Moorer.

Promoter Bob Arum met with MGM Grand hotel officials Wednesday to try and reach agreement on an April 22 fight between Foreman and Axel Schulz of Germany.

The bout had originally been scheduled for the Superdome in New Orleans, but was moved from the city because of a scheduling conflict with Harrah’s Casino, the fight’s New Orleans sponsor.

The fight would come two weeks after 45-year-old Larry Holmes challenges Oliver McCall for the WBC version of the heavyweight crown at neighboring Caesars Palace.

Foreman, 46, won the WBA and IBF versions of the title Nov. 5 at the MGM Grand when he floored Moorer with a right hand in the 10th round of their scheduled 12-round bout.
