Normal Ferry Service Returns To San Juan Islands This Week

Normal ferry service will return to the San Juan Islands Wednesday after nearly three months of restrictions due to dock construction and repairs at Friday Harbor.

The project, which began Oct. 31, included the construction of steel pile wingwalls.

Steel wingwalls, which require less maintenance and are environmentally safer than existing creosotetreated wingwalls, are becoming standard throughout Washington’s ferry system. They have proven effective in withstanding hard landings at other terminals.
