Sirti Hires Second Acting Director

From Staff And Wire Reports

Officials with Spokane’s downtown higher education center have appointed a second acting director to foster collaboration between industry and area researchers.

Board members of the Joint Center for Higher Education named Lyle M. Anderson interim director of SIRTI, a cooperative research facility near Gonzaga University.

Anderson, who has been state director for the Washington Small Business Development Center, will work at SIRTI until June 30.

He joins Terry Novak, who last week was named interim director of the Joint Center, the state agency that oversees the Riverpoint Higher Education Park.

The first Riverpoint building is the Spokane Intercollegiate Research and Technology Institute (SIRTI). Other planned Riverpoint buildings will be constructed with state money for Washington State University Spokane and Eastern Washington University.

Novak’s and Anderson’s appointments follow the announcement that Joint Center and SIRTI Executive Director Hugh Sullivan will leave his job by June 30.

Sullivan has handled both jobs for nearly three years.

Joint Center Board Member Mac McGrath said Anderson’s background in small business and his knowledge of technology will help increase SIRTI’s impact.

That research facility aims to link academic researchers with business and industry to improve products and increase job opportunities.
