University Takes Gsl Gymnastics Title

Kim Meyers captured wins in the vault, beam and floor events as University clinched its third straight Greater Spokane League gymnastics title by winning a four-way meet at University Thursday night.

The Titans (22-0) won the league title by edging second-place Central Valley (19-3) 168.65-166. Mead (15-7) was third and Lewis and Clark (1-21) fourth.

Meyers scored an 8.85 on the vault, 8.8 on the beam and 9.2 on the floor exercise.

Meyers’ received all-around honors with her score of 35.55. She remains unbeaten in all-around competition.

At Rogers, North Central (12-10) won with a score of 156.55. Ferris (12-10) was second, Rogers (6-16) third and Shadle Park (2-20) fourth.

Ferris’ Kacey Fredrickson captured the all-around title with a score of 32.05.

Idaho girls basketballLake City crushed Post Falls 56-18 in the first round of the state-qualifying Region I tourney, giving Timberwolves coach Dave Fealko his 300th victory.

Youth hockeyThirty-one youth hockey teams from Spokane, Yakima and Tri-City will compete in the Safeway Young American Days today through Sunday.

Teams in Senior Mite (age 8 and under), Squirt (10-under) and Peewee (12-under) divisions will play primarily at Eagles Ice Arena. Some games are scheduled for Riverfront Park and the Coliseum.
