Three Rob Man In Wheelchair

An 82-year-old man in a wheelchair was robbed by three young men Saturday afternoon in the elevator of a downtown Spokane apartment building.

The man told police that about 1:30 p.m. a young man followed him into the elevator at the DeLaney Apartments, 242 W. Riverside. When the elevator stopped at an upper floor, the young man reached into the victim’s shirt pocket and grabbed a check book.

The victim said he tried to block the elevator door with his wheelchair, but the young man pushed him aside and ran.

Witnesses told police they saw three young men run from the building. A security videotape showed the three.

Police searched downtown and found the men matching the videotape.

Gary L. Circle, 20, who gave his address as 2022 W. College, Nathan L. Huitt, 19, who gave his address as 1207 E. Wabash, and Frank L. Uhyrek, 19, a transient, were booked into jail on charges of second-degree robbery.

Huitt, who’s also known by the last name of Wade, was being held Sunday on $10,000 bond. No bond had been set Sunday on Circle, and Uhyrek had been released. , DataTimes
