Dollar Falls Vs. Key Currencies

The dollar ended mostly lower against other major currencies Tuesday, slipping on a government report that the U.S. trade deficit hit an all-time high of $11.43 billion in May.

The Commerce Department said that the May imbalance in goods and services was 0.1 percent higher than the previous record, set in April, of $11.42 billion.

In addition, the 50.01-point drop in the Dow Jones industrials average Tuesday put additional pressure on the dollar.

In late New York trading, the dollar was quoted at 88.37 yen, down from 88.82 late Monday. The dollar also was changing hands in New York at 1.3885 German marks, down from 1.3955.
