Boy Drowns After Falling Into Pool

A 2-1/2 year old boy died Wednesday when he apparently drowned in a wading pool, sheriff’s officials said.

The boy was at a home on Lewellyn Creek Road near Athol at about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, said Lt. Nile Shirley of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department.

The boy reportedly fell into a children’s wading pool in the yard, Shirley said.

The child was flown by helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he died at 4:08 p.m., a nursing supervisor said.

Several other youths were at the home at the time, Shirley said. A family friend reported the incident to police.

Sheriff’s officials did not release additional information. The incident remains under investigation.
