Shea Construction Wins Ewu Contract

Eastern Washington University awarded Shea Construction of Spokane a $13.4 million contract to build a 60,000-square-foot addition to the university library in Cheney.

Work is expected to begin this fall and be completed by 1998.

ALSC Architects of Spokane is designing the addition, and it will feature glass walls on two floors at the entrance.

The addition will double the size of the John F. Kennedy Library and quadruple seating capacity.

The project will provide space for enough shelving to stretch 20 miles, and the library will get improved electronic capabilities.

“There are many projects that are significant for a campus, but none is more important or symbolic than a library,” said Michael Ormsby, chairman of the board, in a press release.
