Paul Baggett Osburn, Idaho

Memorial service for Paul Gable Baggett, 75, will be at the First Baptist Church in Kellogg today at noon. Shoshone Funeral Service in Wallace is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baggett, who was born in Clarksville, Tenn., died Thursday.

He was an Army veteran and a construction worker until his retirement in 1982.

Mr. Baggett married Juanita Doherty in Nevada in 1991.

He moved to the area in 1992 and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He also was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing.

Survivors include his wife; one brother, Clarence Baggett of Roseville,Calif.; two sisters, Mildred Costanzo of Roseville and Wava Meyers of Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

Rufus Van Goor Sandpoint

Private family service for Rufus E. Van Goor, 83, was held. Coffelt Funeral Service, Sandpoint, was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Van Goor, who was born in Big Timber, Mont., died Friday.

He lived in Canada, Montana and Minnesota prior to moving to the Sandpoint area in 1948. His family settled on a farm on Selle Road and has farmed there since.

Mr. Van Goor enjoyed fishing, collecting old tools, and tinkering with things.

Survivors include one brother, Reuben Van Goor of Sandpoint; one sister, Marjorie Talsma of Hot Springs,Mont.; one niece and two nephews.

James Smith Spokane

Graveside service for James E. Smith, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith, who died Saturday, was born in Eagle Point, Wis.

He retired in 1976 from Goodwill Industries as director of operations.

He had lived in Spokane for 45 years.

His first wife, Ona Smith, 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Smith; one daughter, Faye Maglaughlin of Othello, Wash.; two sons, James Smith of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Elmer Smith of Spokane; seven grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren.

Warren Miller Post Falls

Graveside service for Warren B. Miller, 87, will be today at 2 p.m. at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller, who was born in Crawford, Neb., died last Wednesday.

He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration before moving to Spokane for four years.

In 1946, he moved to Spirit Lake, where he lived for 12 years before moving back to Spokane. He was employed at Farragut Naval Station as well as the Naval Supply Depot and Fairchild Air Force Base. He also worked for Kaiser Aluminum in Mead and Trentwood and at the smelter in Kellogg.

He later worked for the Davenport Hotel in Spokane and retired in 1973. He then moved to Post Falls.

Mr. Miller loved hunting, fishing, and folk and Western music.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine; one son, Wally Miller of Sandpoint; two daughters, Betty Smith of Lynnwood, Wash., and Kathy Hensley of Spokane; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Ava Johnson Spokane

Graveside service for Ava I. Johnson, 87, will be at 3 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who died Sunday, was born in Odessa, Wash.

She moved to Kamiah, Idaho, in 1928 and graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in education.

She taught elementary school for eight years in Kamiah.

She had lived in Spokane for 57 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 38, Knox Presbyterian Church and the Grace Koehler Circle.

Her husband, Carl Johnson, died Nov. 29.

She is survived by one son, Don Johnson of Spokane; two brothers, Clarence Foreman of Brush Prairie, Wash., and Ellsworth Foreman of Otis Orchards; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ross Parsons Spokane

Memorial service for LaFayette Ross Parsons, 77, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Rockwood Manor. There will be private family inurnment in Moscow, Idaho. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Parsons, a longtime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

He was born in Moscow and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1940 with a degree in business administration. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi, Phi Eta Sigma and Intercollegiate Knights.

He served in the Army from 1941 until 1946 on the staff and faculty at the field artillery school at Fort Sill, Okla.

His wife, Olive Jane “O.J.” Parsons, moved to Spokane in 1945, and he joined her 1946.

He worked as a salesman for Spokane Paper and Stationery and as a buyer for Ken Bush Wholesale Dry Goods before he retired from there as a vice president and general manager.

He was a member of the Early Birds, the University Club, Military Order of World Wars and The Spokane Club. He served with the Sacred Heart Hospital Service League and Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Jo McDuff of Medical Lake, and one son, James Stromme of Vancouver, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the UI School of Business, or the Rockwood Manor infirmary fund or community center.

John Elmore Sr. Spokane

Service for John J. Elmore Sr., 90, will be at 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Elmore, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Spokane resident and was a baker for Jacobson Bread and Bogey Bros.

He was a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the bakers’ union for more than 70 years.

His wife, Rosalin, died in 1993.

He is survived by one son, John Elmore Jr. of Waukegan, Ill.; and two grandsons.

Ellen Bangs Spokane

Memorial service for Ellen M. Bangs, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bangs, who died Saturday, was born in Ada, Minn.

She had worked for Farmers and Merchants Bank in the 1920s and 1930s in Minnesota.

She had lived in Spokane for 32 years.

Her husband, Nick Bangs, died in 1962.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Bangs of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Helen Kendrick Tonasket, Wash.

Graveside service for Helen Kendrick, 105, is planned for 11 a.m. today Wednesday at Tonasket Cemetery. Bergh Funeral Service in Tonasket is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kendrick died Friday at North Valley Nursing Home in Tonasket.

She was born on a homestead near Snohomish, Wash.

She moved to Okanogan, Wash., in 1916 and worked in the Blackwell store. In 1918 she transferred to the Blackwell store in Tonasket, where she worked as a bookkeeper.

She married Arcade Kendrick in 1920 and they settled in Tonasket in 1922. She moved from their home to North Valley Nursing Home in 1990.

Her husband died in 1960.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Drechsel of Coeur d’Alene; 12 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren.

Richard DeChenne Worley, Idaho

Memorial service for Richard DeChenne, 76, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Spokane Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 212 S. David. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. DeChenne, who was born in Washington, died Thursday at home.

He lived in Spokane for many years and worked as an auto mechanic. After World War II, he worked at Utter Motor Co. for 28 years before teaching auto mechanics at Spokane Community College from 1978-1983.

Mr. DeChenne married Violet Pearl Morrow in Spokane in 1946.

He built a summer home on Lake Coeur d’Alene in 1950 before moving to the lake area in 1985.

He was a member of the Spokane Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife, at home; one son, Gary DeChenne of Spokane; two daughters, Donna Howell of Auburn, Wash., and Debbie Klemz of Sterling,Alaska; one brother, DurwardDeChenne of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Charles McGinty Coeur d’Alene

At his request, no service is planned for Charles M. McGinty, 76, who died Sunday. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McGinty, who was born in Nebraska, moved to southern Idaho in the mid-1940s and later moved to North Idaho.

He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Idaho and California Masonic Lodges.

Survivors include two sons, John McGinty of Coeur d’Alene and Bob McGinty of Liberty Lake; one daughter, Betty McGinty of Chester,Calif.; one sister, Helen Boughton of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Shirley Jo Whitman Spokane

Memorial service for Shirley Jo Whitman, 61, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pines Baptist Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Whitman, a 44-year Spokane resident, died Sunday.

She was born in Potlatch, Idaho.

She worked as a nail technician at Dimensions Hair Salon.

Mrs. Whitman was a member of East Valley Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; two sons, Gary Whitman of Spokane and Dan Whitman of Priest Lake, Idaho; two daughters, Kathleen Nelson and Carole Whitman, both of Spokane; three brothers, Allen Baker of Elma, Wash., Donald Baker of Lewiston and Keith Baker of Lynnwood, Wash.; and eight grandchildren.

Elaine Petersen Post Falls

Service for Elaine Y. Petersen, 57, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene. Burial will be held in Fort Mohave, Ariz.

Mrs. Petersen, who was born in Roseglen, N.D., died Sunday.

She lived in North Dakota, Colorado and Arizona, and moved to Post Falls in 1994 to be with her daughter.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Petersen; one son, Doug Petersen of Arizona; one daughter, Brenda Werner of Post Falls; two brothers, Edwin and Albert Sprenger, both of Roseglen; two sisters, Ann Cosgrove of Spokane and Ruth Streeter of Coeur d’Alene; three grandchildren; and stepfamily members Fred Sprenger of California, Emil Sprenger of New Jersey, Ludwig Sprenger and Marie Opp, both of North Dakota, Bertha Christman of Montana, and Irene Skagen of Wyoming.

Jack Coldsnow Elk

Service for Jack Edward William Coldsnow, 70, is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Muehle Cemetery near Elk.

Born in Elk, Mr. Coldsnow died Saturday.

He taught science at Riverside High School and Eastern Washington University.

He was a member of the Spokane Eagles Lodge and the Newport Lions Club.

He is survived by his companion, Marge Rodgers; five daughters, Annette Overton of Pegram, Tenn., Sabra Buntin of Lewisburg, Tenn., and Sherrie, Daffney and Heidi Coldsnow, all of Spokane; four sisters, Evelyn Packard of Spokane, Millicent Daniel of Elk, Mildred Randall of St. Maries and Susie Dunbar of Deer Park; one brother, Edsol Sneva of Spokane; and 14 grandchildren.
