Rescuers Search For Missing Girl

From Staff And Wire Reports

Rescue crews suspended the search for a 1-year-old girl after combing the Skykomish River for 10 hours Sunday, but planned to resume the search in the morning.

Kailee Alberts of Surrey, British Columbia, who would turn 2 in about a week, was reported missing about 9 p.m. Saturday after she wandered away from a home she was visiting south of Monroe, Snohomish County sheriff’s Maj. Tony Lukin said.

Small footprints led to the water’s edge and the child’s wagon was found nearby.

“There were lots of kids around and everybody’s watching her but really no one’s watching her,” said Sue Alberts, Kailee’s mother.

The search will resume at 10 a.m. today, said Monroe Fire Department Battalion Chief Jamie Silva. Rescue crews searched for about two hours Saturday night and resumed the search at 5 a.m. Sunday.
