All-Ages Music Alive And Well At The Dock

Herb Landis, a Spokane lawyer, will open an all-ages music venue in the downtown area on Sunday.

The venue is called the Dock and it’s on the East 200 block of Riverside, the area where the Marketplace formerly was located. The stage is literally the loading dock.

The all-ages show features three hard-edged Christian rock bands: L.A.’s Plank Eye, Seattle’s Spring Chamber and and Portland’s Inch Water.

Landis has been trying to establish a all-ages live music venue for over a year.

“I’m really enthusiastic for supporting local music and local bands,” said Landis who, along with his wife, is backing the facility financially.

“This outdoors venue is just a place I was taken by when I was looking around.”

Landis is well aware of the financial risks involved in running an all-ages venue in Spokane. Three of them - Club Pompeii, Picadilly Palare and Hamilton Recreation Center - all have closed down over the last two years, chiefly because of financial problems.

But that’s not stopping Landis.

“Somebody’s got to do it,” said Landis. “I see the need and I enjoy the music with a passion.”

Sunday’s show and another on June 11 will feature Christian bands. Sunday’s show begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
