Officer Stops Man’s Leap From Monroe Street Bridge

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane police officer prevented a man from jumping off the Monroe Street Bridge Friday afternoon.

A 54-year-old Spokane man was climbing onto the railing when Officer Brenda Curalli arrived at the bridge. The man had one leg over the railing when Curalli pulled him from the edge and handcuffed him, police spokesman Dick Cottam said.

After being handcuffed, the man still tried to climb over the railing, but Curalli held him until more officers arrived.

“It’s a really dangerous thing to do,” said Cottam. “Sometimes they don’t mind taking somebody with them.”

The man was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center for psychological evaluation.
