Three Small Blazes Keep Crews Hopping

From Staff And Wire Reports

Fire District 9 responded to three fires in about an hour Sunday afternoon.

The first fire was at 3:29 p.m. at the Quality Inn Oakwood, 7919 N. Division.

The fire started after someone put a paper cup over a light fixture in the hallway, said Skip Wells, deputy chief of Fire District 9. The fire was out when firefighters arrived.

At 4:10 p.m., firefighters responded to a mobile home fire at 4221 E. Stoneman Road. The fire was started by an incendiary device used on gopher holes, Wells said.

That fire was also out when firefighters arrived. The bathroom and a corner of the home were damaged.

At 4:38 p.m., firefighters went to a timber fire near a construction site in the 15800 block of North Edencrest Drive. Juveniles supposedly set the fire, now being investigated by the Department of Natural Resources, Wells said.
