Earthquake Kills At Least 6 In Greece

An earthquake struck southwest Greece early Thursday, bringing down buildings on their sleeping occupants and killing at least six people, including two children. Dozens of people were injured.

Initial reports were sketchy, but the Athens Geodynamic Institute said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 and hit the area between Egion, 90 miles west of Athens, and the town of Nafpaktos on the Gulf of Corinth. It said the quake’s epicenter was in the seabed of the gulf.

An apartment house of unknown size collapsed in Egion as did a wing at the city’s Eliki hotel that was housing 12 to 15 French tourists, officials said.
