Mailboxes Destroyed By Explosions
Explosive devices are suspected of destroying at least four mailboxes over the weekend in Mead and Colbert.
“In one of them, there was evidence of a soda bottle,” Sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick said.
No one was injured in those incidents.
At least one of the devices is suspected of being a plastic one- or two-litre soda bottle. A common household cleaner may have been placed in the bottle with chemicals to cause a rapid expansion of gases resulting in an explosion.
The force is powerful enough to destroy a mailbox. Someone holding the device or standing nearby could receive serious injuries or chemical burns, Wiyrick said.
“It could really do a number,” he said.
Call the sheriff’s department immediately if you discover a bottle or suspicious container in your mailbox.
