Salt Lake Bid Shaky

Compiled From Wire Services

Three International Olympic Committee members believed to be supportive of Salt Lake City’s bid for the 2002 Winter Games will not be voting today.

In Budapest, Hungary, where the IOC is meeting this week, committee spokeswoman Ruth Beck confirmed that Jose D. Vallarino Veracierto of Uruguay, Prince Faisal Fahd Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia, and Slobodan Filipovic of Yugoslavia would not be attending the Winter Games vote.

Filipovic died at home Wednesday night, and Veracierto and Prince Fahd have been officially excused.

World record-holder Colin Jackson’s unbeaten streak in the 110-meter hurdles was snapped at a Nuremberg, Germany meet.

Florian Schwarthoff, who was timed in 13.19 seconds and fellow German Mike Fenner, 13.41, both bettered Jackson’s time of 13.43. It was the first outdoor sprint hurdles defeat for Jackson since the Berlin ISTAF meet in August 1993, a span of 31 races. xxxx
