John Fritz Spokane

Rosary service for John C. Fritz, 89, is set for 5:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Mr. Fritz, who died Wednesday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

He was a farmer and a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

He is survived by one brother-in-law, Emmet Kampa of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Harvey Tower Spokane

Memorial service for Harvey Tower, 88, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Inurnment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Tower, who died Wednesday, was born in Kalispell, Mont.

He came to Spokane in 1942 and was an electrical engineer with Kaiser Aluminum. He retired in 1970.

He was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 73.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris; three sons, Lee Tower of Kalispell, Mont., Lynn Tower of Spokane, and Arthur Tower of Phoenix, Ariz.; one sister, Vera Fitzgerald of Sun City West, Ariz.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of Washington.

Mary MacDonald Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Mary Frances MacDonald, 76, will be at 10 a.m today at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chewelah. Burial will follow at Chewelah Memorial Park. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. MacDonald, who died Thursday, was born in Jump Off Joe, Wash.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph MacDonald; one daughter, Jackie Campbell of Bothell, Wash.; four stepsons, Tom MacDonald of Kent, Wash., Gary MacDonald of Spokane, Robert MacDonald of Federal Way, Wash., and Timothy MacDonald of Auburn, Wash; one stepdaughter, Jerrene Loss of Greenacres; four brothers, Jake and Joe Tomsha, both of Colville, Wash., Stan Tomsha of Medical Lake and Matt Tomsha of Salem, Ore.; three sisters, Agnes Williams of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., Betty Gradishar of Savannah, Ga., and Ann Herman of Gresham, Ore.; three grandchildren and 11 step grandchildren.

Helen Adams Hayden Lake, Idaho

Service for Helen Louise Adams, 81, will be at 1 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Adams, who died June 22 in Seattle, was born and raised in Chicago.

She moved to North Hollywood, Calif., at the age of 24. She married George Adams in 1963 and they moved to Hayden Lake in 1974.

Her husband died in 1976 and she moved to Seattle to be near her son.

She was preceded in death by a grandson in 1982.

Survivors include her son, Marshall “Bob” VanHorn of Woodinville, Wash.; stepdaughters, Lisa Adams of Crescent City, Calif., and Jodi Lewis of Clifton, Colo.; grandchildren, Rick and Victoria VanHorn, Coeur d’Alene, and Eric VanHorn of Seattle.

Albin Sonderen Spokane

Vigil service for Albin M. Sonderen, 82, is set for 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Sonderen, a 44-year Spokane resident, died Friday.

He was born in O’Fallon, Mo., and worked in the paper box industry for 60 years. He founded Rose City Paper Box in Portland in 1941 and Sonderen Packaging of Spokane in 1963.

He was a member of the Downtown Rotary, Spokane Chamber of Commerce, Association of Washington Businesses and the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Sonderen; two sons, Ted Sonderen of Ilwaco, Wash., and Mark Sonderen of Spokane; four daughters, Clara Fox of Toutle, Wash.; Anita Hamilton, Kristina Gibbs, and Karen Bart, all of Spokane; one brother, John Sonderen of Portland; two sisters, Marcella Halonen of Seaside, Ore., and Mary Thompson of Milwaukie, Ore.; 14 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.
